The old tales are the rules

The creatures aren't decoration. They behave the way their stories say, and every one you meet goes into a codex with its original tale. There are more than 200.

The Imugi becomes a dragon

The thousand-year serpent grows as the fight drags on, until it ascends as a dragon, breathes fire and floods the floor.

Uturi hid his wings

He bursts out of a splitting boulder on the last floor of Mt. Jiri. At half health the wings under his arms unfold: he swoops in, strikes, flies off, and finally charges on his dragon-horse.

The bandit who hid his life

The bandit of the underground kingdom keeps his life in a jar. Until you find it and smash it, no blow can bring him down.

Creatures from the old tales

Watch the tale in a short video, then meet the creature in the game. Tap a monster and a sheet like these opens, and every creature you meet goes into the codex with its tale.

Sondol: a man's name on the autumn wind

A Goryeo king fleeing by boat to Ganghwa Island grew suspicious when the boat turned into a narrow strait that looked like a dead end, and had the boatman, Sondol, beheaded.

Before he died, Sondol set a gourd on the water and told them to follow it, and the boat passed safely. Every year since, around the 20th day of the tenth lunar month, a bitter wind blows. People call it the Sondol wind, and the strait Sondol's Neck.

In the game, Sondol is a vengeful spirit whose wind knocks you back two tiles and off your feet every four turns. If there's water or poison behind you, that's where you land.

Haetae: the stone beasts of Gwanghwamun

The haetae is a mythical beast said to tell right from wrong and gore the guilty with its horn. It became a symbol of law and justice, and was also believed to hold back fire.

When Gyeongbokgung Palace was rebuilt, stone haetae were set before Gwanghwamun Gate, it is said, to guard the palace against fire. Two of them still stand there today.

In the game, the haetae's stone body shrugs off fire and poison. Every five turns it lowers its horn to aim, then charges down that line next turn, knocking you two tiles back. Step out of the line.

Chain your spells

Wood, fire, earth, underworld, water. Cast in order and each spell gets a bonus; complete the circle and the next spell hits twice as hard. Lightning on water spreads the shock.

도트 그래픽이라 귀엽고 아기자기해서 시작했는데 생각보다 난이도가 있어서 계속 도전하게 되네요ㅋㅋ … 틈틈이 한국 설화에 대한 내용도 알게 돼서 좋았어요!

I started because the pixel art was cute, but it's harder than I expected, so I keep going back lol … and I liked picking up Korean folktales along the way!
